Ivy Covered Window, Redux

I photographed this window on the Cotswold Cottage at Greenfield Village earlier this summer when the leave were green.  You can see the earlier photo by clicking here.  I like the earlier picture better, mainly because of the angle at which I took it.

Bright Ideas

A large part of Greenfield Village pays homage to Thomas Edison, a hero of Henry Ford.  The light bulb above, a replica of one of Edison's bulbs, helps light the Edison laboratory building.  The light fixtures below hang in another building, moved from Florida, which Edison used for experiments on growing domestic rubber from alternative sources.

Bottling Innovation

One of my favorite buildings at Greenfield Village remains Thomas Edison's laboratory.  The second floor houses countless bottles, test tubes, scientific devices, and gadgets used to test his ideas and create new inventions.  The bottles above line one of the walls of the laboratory.

Gears & Pulleys

Greenfield Village abounds with gears and pulleys in the numerous machine shops preserved on the museum grounds.  I have photographed many of them over the years and I consistently prefer them in black and white.  The monochrome pictures highlight the simplicity of these amazing machines.

Inspiring Spires

You can see both of these spires at the Greenfield Village-Henry Ford Museum complex in Dearborn, Michigan.  The Mary Martha Chapel pictured above resides within Greenfield Village and the tower below caps the main building of the Henry Ford Museum.

Labor Day

I felt these gears I photographed on one of the presses in the machine shop at Greenfield Village would serve as a perfect photo for Labor Day.

A Study In Motion

I decided to play around a bit the other day at Greenfield Village with my adjustable neutral density filter and tripod to take some longer exposure photos.  The neutral density filter lets me limit the light coming into the lens while not affecting the colors captured in the photo.  With the help of a tripod to keep the camera steady I can dial up the darkness of the filter and lengthen time the shutter is open.  This allows for the blurring of anything moving across the field of view when the shutter is open.  The top photo is of the carousel at Greenfield Village.  The two bottom photographs I captured of the steam engine leaving the station and the platform by the main entrance.  In hindsight, I should have used just a tad bit faster shutter speed on the bottom photos to catch a bit more of the outline of the train.

Horsin' Around

While I have never been a big fan of horses, I could not help but photograph these two carriage horses, "Abraham" and "Lincoln", at Greenfield Village.
