Reotown Depot

Along with constructing the new steam plant in Reotown, the Board of Water and Light also  rehabilitated and renovated the Grand Trunk Western railroad station adjacent to the plant.  The restored building now serves as a large gathering hall for social events.

A Study In Motion

I decided to play around a bit the other day at Greenfield Village with my adjustable neutral density filter and tripod to take some longer exposure photos.  The neutral density filter lets me limit the light coming into the lens while not affecting the colors captured in the photo.  With the help of a tripod to keep the camera steady I can dial up the darkness of the filter and lengthen time the shutter is open.  This allows for the blurring of anything moving across the field of view when the shutter is open.  The top photo is of the carousel at Greenfield Village.  The two bottom photographs I captured of the steam engine leaving the station and the platform by the main entrance.  In hindsight, I should have used just a tad bit faster shutter speed on the bottom photos to catch a bit more of the outline of the train.

I've Been Workin' On The Railroad

Valerie and I took a trip to a place called French Lick, Indiana last weekend.  French Lick is a very small place in the middle of absolutely nowhere.  The basketball player, Larry Bird, was from there, but he clearly has not invested any of his millions in the place.  We stayed at the beautifully restored West Baden Springs Resort, which seems to be the only place that the poor economy has not ravaged in the area.  We took a short train ride at the Indiana Railway Museum.  The photos here are all from the museum.  It was sort of overcast and dreary when we were there, so I played with the colors of these photos a bit.  The first three are each composites of seven photos taken at different exposures and melded together.  The last two are just some creative editing to make them less blah.

Keweenaw Choo Choo

I was playing around with a few old photos the other night and did a little work on this photo of an old steam locomotive at the Quincy Mine on the Keweenaw Peninsula.  The original was quite boring in color, so I played around with it and decided that a black and white photo suited it best.
