More Spring Snakes

I have encountered more snakes this spring than in past years.  Mostly I find Garter Snakes like are pictured below, but I recently came across what I believe to be Northern Water Snake, as shown above.  It was very aggressive when I came upon it along the trail, which is a trait of this species of snake.

Sneaky Snake

I do not recall ever seeing a garter snake with such dark coloration.  This one tried its hardest to slither quietly through the dead leaves on the forest floor, but I heard the rustling.  Once it realized I had spotted it, the snake froze in position and waited for me to take a couple of photos.

Tree Frog

When taping some video for the HSGL cemetery walk on Sunday, I realized I had several photos of a tree frog I photographed on my mother's deck railing about a month ago still on the memory card.  I am not a big reptile admirer, but these little guys are quite unique.  Even its eyes has a certain level of camouflage to them.

Sneaky Snake

This little Eastern Garter Snake poked its head up out of the leaves and held perfectly still for several minutes as I shot a number of photographs of it.  It was in no hurry to slither away when I finished.  I think it just wanted to soak up the beautiful sunshine on Saturday.
